LIU Xin was born in Mount Huangshan, Anhui Province, China, and educated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts' Department of Chinese Painting. LIU combines self-expression and ink brushwork in his work. In his works, each stroke is defined with a calligraphic line, displaying the poetic oriental quality of ink painting. Simultaneously, he transforms historical texts into his own unique lexicon through symbolism, iconography, and totems. With a free and aspirational style, LIU explores the combination of self-expression and ink brushwork, refining and sublimating the poetic oriental nature of ink painting via artistic refinement, and displaying the relationship between tradition and contemporary art in his works.
